Auckland interior design architects Maken create and curate commercial interiors inspired by timeless and sophisticated design. Primarily working within the hospitality and retail sectors, they craft their commercial clients' interiors with a tailored approach. Honesty and curiosity are hallmarks of Maken's work as they create celebrations of their clients' visions.
Maken were commissioned to carry out interior design for Golden Apple Dental, a boutique dental clinic specialising in cosmetic dentistry, located in the 4-star Porters hotel complex in Havelock North, Hawke's Bay. The interior design outcome transports clients into a calming yet sophisticated space where attention to detail has been carefully crafted.
Subsequently, Maken engaged with SCP to photographically document their design work at Golden Apple Dental, to feature on both their own website and in various media outlets including interior design magazines and in online industry platforms.
"Wow, thank you so much Simon. The images you shot of our work at the clinic look superb, what an amazing job. I know it was a tricky space to shoot and get all the colours right so thanks a bunch for absolutely nailing it!"

Shot mid-winter in June 2018, the shoot was carried out at the Golden Apple Dental clinic in the Porters complex in Havelock North. As interior design professionals, Maken defined the brief in a well-described shot list that included:
Looking from the front door through to the main reception counter.
Focus on the reception area with a detailed shot of the feature light.
Surgical area #1 – with doors closed.
Surgical area #2 – with doors open revealing the normally concealed kitchenette and counter area.
The consultation area.
Close-up joinery detail shots.
SCP and Maken, in consultation with Golden Apple Dental, purposely chose a quiet day to shoot the clinic. Arriving first thing in the morning, Simon from SCP met with the clinic manager to organise the sequence of shots. The reception area was captured first before moving through the surgery capturing the images needed to complete the brief.
Simon used a Canon DSLR with a wide-angle lens to accurately capture the designed space. Ambient and natural light was supplemented with off-camera lighting where required.
Colour correctness was paramount so Simon made sure the colour scheme was accurately photographed, in particular the duck egg blue cabinets and wall panelling. To achieve this he used the X-rite ColourChecker to calibrate and ensure colour consistency and accuracy throughout the shoot.
"When it comes to colour accuracy, is doesn't get better than the X-Rite ColourChecker. I used this system because I needed to ensure the colours the designers had specified, and that we were seeing with the naked eye, accurately matched the images I shot and provided Maken with to represent their design work in print and online."
