Gone Fishin'

Just on my way through Ahuriri this afternoon and spotted this guy...

At first I thought he was a paddle boarder but upon closer inspection through a 200mm lens realised he was on his bike...With his fishing rod in hand!

Great to see that NZ's law regarding the use of cycle helmets was being stuck to... lol

Gone Fishing, Ahuriri,

Simply Indulgent...Part 1

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of starting to work with Fiona Richie of Simply Indulgent in Taradale on some new marketing/magazine and website promo images.

Here's an image of the shop front...  Beautifully inviting and relaxing premises, with some great beauty treatment going on too...ahmm, or so my Wife tells me ;-)

I could have lingered on that sofa a while longer!

Stingray Bay

Last weekend Andrew Caldwell and I took a stroll (and when I say stroll, I actually mean a death defying, rock scrambling, 30 minute hike in the pitch black) to Stingray Bay and Flat Rock, Tangoio.

Access is gained along a very eroded coastal path from Tangoio Beach, just to the north of Napier.  This is a beautiful part of the Hawkes Bay coastline, and I intend to make the trip sometime in the future with a fishing rod also!

RUAHINE RANGES

This morning I went for a drive along SH50 between Takapau and Hastings to try and find some fresh snow.  To be honest I was a little disappointed, I expected to see far more of the fluffy white stuff, especially on the Ruahine's.

Here's the view which greeted me down one of the gravel roads I went down.  The weather was slowly  moving in, so I didn't linger too long...

SNOWING ON TE MATA PEAK

Just been doing a short photography refresher for a local chap who was wanting to learn more about his camera in preparation for an overseas trip later this year.

I could see from Hastings that the weather was closing in on Te Mata Peak, so we took the opportunity to take a trip up the peak and get some snow shots and also cement some of the knowledge he had previously learnt.

Safe to say I have NEVER been so cold in Hawkes Bay.  The car thermometer was saying 1 degrees C, then with the windchill (of which there was plenty) it must have been into minus figures... Brrr....

Stay warm everyone!

Following on from my Sleeping Giant PhotoNews post a few days ago, here's another from my scouting trip.

This image consists of 18 individual shots which I stitched together to create a panoramic.  On the left of the image you can see Te Mata Peak, and on the right-hand-side you have Mount Erin.

CYCLONE PAM - DESTRUCTION

#HawkesBay #CyclonePam #TCP #Destruction #Storm #Building

Here's a shot which I took last week showing some of the aftermath from Cyclone Pam in Hawkes Bay.

These properties are regularly battered by the Cape Coast's high seas.  It's amazing that some of them are still standing, nevermind 'habitable'.

This stretch of coast suffers greatly from erosion, and there is a constant battle between the residents of Haumoana, Te Awanga and Clifton with the local Councils to try and save the area from this ever present risk.

I guess it's a case of cost versus the benefit, and the other ramifications associated with building groynes or other defences  as to why this issue is still on-going.

Here's an image from my Village Exchange Development work in Havelock North.

I'm following this project during construction on a week-by-week basis - over a 2yr period.
