Sacred Kingfisher

Another image from my recent trip to Lake Tutira...

I didn't think much of this image when I first saw the RAW file, but then with a little work I've ended up with an image which I really quite like... I think a square crop really helped it as it removed some distracting elements on the right of the frame...

A few minutes after taking this shot, I spotted a New Zealand Kingfisher sat in a tree a few metres away.  I didn't manage to get a shot of that particular bird as it would have flown off before I'd put on a longer lens, but I did have one in my archives which fit the bill rather well...

I normally don't add objects to an image which weren't there to begin with, but for this shot I felt it needed a little more.  As I'd spotted a Kingfisher in the area I figured it perfectly possible that it would have sat on that branch at some point in it's life, and probably would be there again if an annoying photographer wasn't around!...  :-)

MOUNTAIN IN THE MIST

Bright and early on Sunday Morning, fellow togger, Andrew Caldwell and I met up on to shoot the breeze and try and get a nice shot or two.

The fog didn't quite play ball and I ended up calling it a day as the damp air began to strike into my bones... Must be getting old!

In the end, I came away with this pano shot of the back of Te Mata Peak.  Not quite what I wanted, but there's always next time!
