Client Brief

Established in 2016, Berry Farms NZ is a leading grower of Driscoll's berries based in Hawke's Bay. The business operates two farms, Astill Farm in Hastings and Bay View Farm north of Napier, growing strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in tunnels and substrate for a long, consistent harvest season from early spring through to late autumn.

Berry Farms NZ is part of the RD8 Fresh Produce Group, supplying The Fresh Berry Company, which markets the Driscoll's brand domestically and internationally.

The business needed commercial photography to support its marketing, with a clear focus on harvest operations across both farms.

Approach

This was a two-farm, one-day shoot across Astill Farm and Bay View Farm, starting early in the morning and working around live harvest operations rather than staged setups. The brief called for a harvest operations focus, so I concentrated on documenting the picking process as it actually happens: pickers working through the tunnels, produce close-ups, punnets being packed and crates loaded ready for transport.

Working across two sites in a single day meant keeping the schedule tight and making the most of the early morning light, while still capturing the range of imagery needed to represent the full harvest operation.

Outcome

The shoot delivered 119 final edited images across the two farms, supplied in high and web resolution for use across Berry Farms NZ and RD8 Fresh Produce Group marketing.
