Client Brief
Bostock Brothers is a Hawke's Bay based organic free range chicken producer, founded by brothers Ben and George Bostock. The company raises certified organic chickens on free range farms across the region, with the birds free to roam once fully feathered.
Bostock Brothers needed a strong bank of marketing imagery to support their website, social media and wider brand campaigns. This meant capturing the farm and flock alongside lifestyle imagery that shows the product in real, everyday settings, from the barbecue to the lunch table. One shoot also supported the launch of a collaboration with The Tradie BBQ, a Classic Kiwi Onion marinated chicken nibble, and needed to carry a strong summer barbecue feel.
Approach
I spent time on two of Bostock Brothers' free range farms in Hawke's Bay, photographing the flocks in their natural environment along with general farm operations and the people behind the day to day work. Alongside this, I shot a retro themed beach barbecue scene at Waimarama Beach, complete with a 1960s VW Beetle and the brand's colours worked into the styling, right down to the green chilly bin. The Waimarama shoot supported the launch of the Tradie BBQ collaboration, so the styling and setting needed to carry that summer barbecue feel. Two separate lunchtime shoots at a property in Havelock North captured food, guests, and the chicken as the hero of the table, and profile imagery for team members was also captured where required.
The work was split across four shoots over a six month period during summer, rather than trying to capture everything in one visit. That gave us the flexibility to work around the client's timeline and build a varied library of imagery rather than a one-off set.
Outcome
100+ final images were delivered, supplied in both high and web resolution formats. The imagery is used across Bostock Brothers' website, social media and wider marketing, with one of the beach barbecue images also featuring on billboard campaigns in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
