Client Brief
Simon Cartwright Photography Ltd, an NZIPP-accredited commercial photographer based in Havelock North, provided event photography for the NZCSA Conference 2026, held at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre from 2 to 4 August 2026. NZ Cold Storage Association is the industry association for New Zealand's cold storage and logistics sector, and holds an annual conference bringing members together for sessions, an exhibition, and networking events. This year's theme was The Quest for Efficiency.
NZCSA needed comprehensive coverage of the conference to use across the association's magazine, website, social media, and marketing collateral for the following year's event. The brief covered the welcome function, two days of conference sessions and exhibition, and the awards evening.
Approach
This was my fourth time shooting at Te Pae, and my second NZCSA conference for Kim Mundell, the association's Executive Officer, having first covered the event in Napier in 2025. That ongoing relationship, along with familiarity with the venue, made it easier to plan coverage across a packed two-day programme.
I started at the welcome function on the Sunday evening, then moved between the conference sessions, exhibition floor, and networking areas across the two main days, before covering the awards evening. The brief called for a broad record of the conference, from formal moments like the awards through to the more candid coverage of sessions, exhibition stands, and the networking that happens around them.
Outcome
Around 23 hours of coverage across the three days produced around 750 final images, supplied in both high and web resolution formats, covering the welcome function, conference sessions, exhibition, networking, and the awards evening.
The images are being used across NZCSA's magazine, website, and social channels, and will feed into the association's marketing collateral for next year's conference.
I'm next back at Te Pae in September 2026 for the CBAFF conference, organised by Kim through her own company, Mandeville Limited, continuing our working relationship into a new event.
